The Release

One more interesting release from Custom Dioramics in 1/35 figures with item number 4049. An old woman Refugee as it is stated on the Box label. Will be proven very useful in any dio or vigniette.

The kit

The classic clear plastic box of Custom Dioramics holds a small plastic bag with 4 pieces of cream-colored resin. As usual there is no securing material like some foam pieces or “pop corn” but hopefully there are not sensitive pieces for this figure.

The parts are :

  • One big piece for the body head and legs
  • One for the right arm
  • One for the left arm
  • One for a suitcase.

Pose - Use of the figure

The old lady is in a sitting position with the suitcase on her knees in a kind of protective pose. Probably all her left belongings are in this leather case. But it doesn’t have to be a Refugee 100%. I mean that could be an old village lady in any Mediterranean village waiting for the train to go to the big city to see her grandchildren. It can be a classic picture in any Greek village for sure, and even till nowadays. The lady is dressed in an old fashion long dress, and a head covering shaw

    Quality - Sculpting Detail

The quality of sculpting is good and the casting is very good as even if I searched hard enough I couldn’t locate any air bubble holes, even tiny ones. And that’s good!!!! The face is good for an aged lady and shows some disappointment or even sadness as an expression. The dress folds are nice and many and the painter will be happy to do all the graduation between shadows and highlights. Can be a good study for this also.

    Fit

The fitting of the few parts is perfect, and there are even locating pin on the hands that lead u directly on the right spot to put these pieces. Something that is very helpful especially to younger or less experienced modelers

    Painting

The painting possibilities are endless since the dress and shaw can be in any combination, and u have to take some care to imitate the leather texture on the case.

    Conclusion

That’s all, not much more to say. It’s highly recommended, especially to Diorama builders, since will solve some "empty corner" problem in a dio, or a vigniette and can be an interesting addition.

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
