introduction

The Soviet 85MM divisional gun D-44 was designed by Uralmash 1943-1944 and produced 1945-1953 with over 10,000 produced. By 1950's the D-44 had been exported for use by Warsaw Pack nations with 28 other countries.
The gun uses GAZ-AA tires and was towed by a 2.5 ton truck.

kit contents

Opening the box you will find a 8 page manual with a color sheet for painting and 1 packet of PE, 1 Packet of tires, and 5 spurs of off orange plastic.

Parts A consists of wheel rims and grab bars.

Parts B is the 2 piece barrel, breech and carriage parts.

Parts C is the rims and front shield.

Parts E are the legs, breech parts and cleaning rod.

conclusion

This is a pretty straight-forward kit with the building of the breech the first task, followed by the barrel and then legs and undercarriage. These can be built in travel mode or firing position. Once assembled the barrel will have to be drilled out. As we have come to expect from Trumpeter, the plastic is well-molded and almost flash-free. I did not really see any ejector marks and there is a lot of raised detail in the parts.
SUMMARY
Highs: This is a kit that will fill the void of guns between WW II and the Cold War.
Lows: Plastic barrel; lots of small parts.
Verdict: This is a good kit of a gun that was built at the end or WW II, and went through the Cold War with many countries. This will make a nice addition to the other Soviet gun kits from Trumpeter.
