introduction

Our friends over at MIG Productions just keep cranking them out. The latest thing they have graced us with is a set of resin replacement wheels for the new ICM V3000S truck in 1/35. For a very nice review of that kit look no further than Jim Rae's work here on Armorama.

the wheels

The set comes well packaged in a small, yet sturdy, blister pack with a photo on the front of the resin pieces as well as a small inset photo of a built up kit of the V3000S, presumably with the replacement wheels in place. Truthfully, the picture is a bit on the small size and you canít really tell which wheels the finished kit is sporting.

The replacement wheels are molded in a creamy white colored resin with just the smallest bits of flash present on all except the one spare, which has a more substantial flash issue across the inside of the molding but nothing that canít be easily remedied with any number of hobby tools.

Each piece does have a sturdy pour plug attached that will need to be cleaned up. Unfortunately, the plug attachment point for each of the wheels runs across a portion of the tread pattern which will be lost in the inevitable clean-up process, itís a good thing that you will be able to position that spot as the point of contact with the ground.

In total you receive all six wheels; dual sets for the rear and singles for the front, the one spare tire, and four sets of brake drums. The tread pattern is different from that on the kit wheels and appears to be the civilian pattern. It doesnít appear that there will be any issues with swapping these out with the kit wheels for a different look. There is no bulge molded into any of the tires, not sure how much, if any, there should be with civilian tires, but do be aware.

Hats off to MIG Productions for providing modelers with an inexpensive, alternative set of wheels for the new ICM kit.
SUMMARY
Highs: Easy process to swap out for a different look.
Lows: Pour plug locations causes some loss of detail.
Verdict: If you like resin wheels or you are after a civilian vehicle this set can't be beat.

About Rick Cooper (clovis899)
FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES

I have been modeling for about 30 years now. Once upon a time in another century I owned my own hobby shop; way more work than it was worth. I tip my opti-visor to those who make a real living at it. Mainly build armor these days but I keep working at figures, planes and the occasional ship.
