Intro

Under review here, we have a mounted kit from the Russian miniatures firm called “Authors Sculpt”, that as you may remember, appeared soon after Korean Seil Models closed down and engaging sculptors that used to work for Seil in the past.

This kit is a 54mm mounted Russian Vojevoda sculpted by Sergey Zlobov.

Packing – First Impression

The box is a book like design , that the company uses for the mounted figures of them , with nice graphic printed surface and a picture of the unpainted assembled kit instead of a painted box art.

Opening the box, we find a foamy sheet protecting a few plastic bags that include the pieces , carefully placed in there.

The box is sturdy enough to hold and protect the figures avoiding any possible damage, during transfer.

The Kit (what’s in the box)

The kit comes in a medium grey color resin material and in a total of 18 pieces

9 of them are for the horse, and the base, while the rest for the rider and his equipment as it can clearly seen in the pictures.

Included also there is a small leaflet, with pictures of the assembled figure, to help the modeler through the construction.

Quality – Detail

The quality of casting , which is the first thing that comes to your face, is really good.
Crisp detail printing and no visible flaws , make a good start as we inspect the kit.

As with other AS miniatures, there is some minimal cleaning to do for this kit, and most of the work will go to remove the casting blocks of the pieces and smoothing out the joints with some sand paper but not more than this.

One major advantage is the one piece that represents the horse, that means you will not have to join 2 halves and a head, as usual , and then have to putty and smooth all the joining lines. This is a nightmare for many modelers, and looks that Sergey took under consideration !

The action pose of the Vojevoda, is nice , and as usual happens with Sergey’s horses, this one has a dynamic movement , which attracts the eye.

The whole kit is luxurious, regarding the equipment of the high rank Russian, and would lead to a definitely eye pleasing result once finished.

Face, chain mail, details, horse decoration, are really nicely sculpted and will help you a lot at the goal of making them stand out , once painted.

Conclusion

One more nice first effort for Author’s Sculpt with a mounted kit.

Once again, I would ask for a painted version as a box art, as motive and inspiration to the modeler, and maybe AS in a latter time will consider this.

In total, high quality casting, good detail sculpted, and a very dynamic pose (especially of the horse) lead in a nice set, that will please, the painter for quite a time, as, this is not an easy kit, for beginners, due to lots of detail.

SUMMARY
Highs: Deatailed sculpting, nice dynamic pose, horse in one piece, good casting quality
Lows: Spear in resin - would be better in metal rod

About Costas Rodopoulos (Major_Goose)
FROM: KIKLADHES, GREECE / Ελλάδα

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
