Intro

As it has been said before, the Greek firm “YS Masterpieces”, is not a new company in modeling. For many years they create naval models of high precision and accuracy , and as a casting company is also making all Pegaso castings in resin (sceneries, busts, Fantasy figures, e.t.c.)

This means that their specialty in resin casting is something assured, and I believe that is one of the best resin casting companies at least all over Europe if not between the best of the world.

They continue their venture with figures releases and interesting “alternative” subjects . Under review here, we have a bust kit called “Legion of the damned ” Zu-Kaas in 150 mm scale , sculpted by Greek Sculptor George Gurogiannis, and the box art painted from Michael Gurogianis.

Packing – First Impression

The box of the company is a black box from hard sturdy carton , and is really good in size to have the pieces of the specific miniature, placed in comfort, with no fear of breakings and damages. The kits parts are very well protected in dark colour foam material sheets, and this insures the safety even in long distance transportation.

Remember, as i always say that this kind of box is really handy to keep after painting the model for many uses .

The Kit (what’s in the box)

The kit comes in a grey color resin and in a total of 5 pieces (bust , base, butcher’s knife , 2 ears

The bust is a good little monster , that leaves a lot of space for painters interpretation Its also available I think for smaller or bigger modifications , like adding facial hair , some shield part , adding another weapon or anything else that imagination would come with . if you want to categorize this bust , it would definitely go to the fantasy section

Quality – Detail

What you will first realize after opening the box is the high quality of casting, which was noticed also on the previous releases of YS.

A really professional work , of good quality resin material, with perfect surface , no air bubbles or imperfections of any kind .

There is minimal cleaning to do for this kit, and most of the work will go to clean a very thin line on the bust but this will not take more than 5 minutes.

Now the sculpting is really good, the monster details and the face that has an angry but also ironic expression is really something that would tempt you to get the brushes wet.

The butchers knife is really well made, and the separate ears with a lot of earrings complete the picture of Zu-kaas

The small base is really made, with a small pile of rocks , and you will just need a metal pin to secure the bust on it .

Painting

That’s a totally free theme with lots of “flesh” to paint and I think there should be the major interest of the painter. The smaller details, as well as the knife will enhance the picture on the painters taste .

Conclusion

This is a really nice “monster” effort for YS Masterpieces in the range of figures .

The nice sculpting of a free theme, the superb quality casting, good packing , leave the customer really satisfied, and I wish we will soon see more in different scales and subjects.

FROM: KIKLADHES, GREECE / Ελλάδα

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
