Italian Motorboat MAS2

Molded in cream resin, the parts are all exceptionally clean castings. The hull parts show no warping, and have a very fine pour plug along the keel, that will require careful sanding to remove, and still keep a straight keel. The deckhouse is also straight, and has the openings covered with fine flash. The pour plus here are along the rear quarter area, and should pose no problem on removal. (Photo shows one already removed)

The hull is molded with the internal frames, and they appear to line up nicely on dry fitting. The torpedo parts and prop shafts are also molded in resin, and appear straight and true. Besides the torpedoes you are given the depth charge racks that appear to sit between the two torpedoes, along with two nicely molded engine to help dress up the interior details. Loads of tiny, well-molded smaller parts complete the resin castings for the boat.
Resin castings are included for a fairly simple and straightforward display base.

A decal sheet is included covering several hull numbers in black and white, and 2 Italian flags. There is also a small piece of clear sheet to make the porthole glass.

The instruction sheet has on the first page a short history, and specs for the boat. The first page covers assembling the hull and the interior, all in simple drawing form. Careful fitting and alignment will probably be needed, and I sure a lot of extra detail can be added if you have the references for this area. How much of the interior can be seen after the deckhouse is installed I don’t know, so I would suggest checking it before going too detail crazy.
The next sheet covers the placement of the topside details and painting instructions called out with Humbrol numbers.

Retailing for $89.90, I picked this up as one of Joe’s show specials for $69.90, a rather good deal. (I bought a few kits off of Joe over the week end…. 3 Naval- including my DDD2 model).

final notes

Although I would not recommend this kit to the rank newcomer to ships or resin kits, due to the many extremely small parts the will need to be safely separated from the pour plugs, I would recommend it to those with even moderate experience working with resin, in the smaller scales. I’m happy with it, and am looking forward to building it.

I'm rewriting this in a much more humoristic way, to help over inflate my ego, and place my self on a pedestal, because I don't have a life, and plastic models are the only thing I live for. I plead guilty as charged to excessive babble, light hearted humor, and continued encouragement to youngsters...
